Pjazza Teatru Rjal (Republic Street, Valletta) — Pjazza Teatru Rjal, the open theater on the ruins of the former Opera House in Valletta, was officially opened in August 2013. The theater is part of the City Gate project designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, which also incorporates the entrance to the city and the new parliament building. The theater project included excavation to create changing rooms, wardrobes and space for equipment underground behind the theatre between the Church of Our Lady of Victory and Piazza de Valette. The remaining ruins of the old theater (destroyd during World War II) were cleaned and restored, including the former ticket offices at the front, which until recently used to house small shops. National Stadium (Ta’Qali, Hattard) – located 20 minutes west of Valletta, this is the national stadium of Malta, and is the home stadium of the country’s national football team. Located at a site which used to be a military airport during World War II, this stadium stages most Maltese Premier League and cup matches, as well as international matches.
